Over Prescription of medicines

Over prescription of drugs is highly rampant in India & world over. Doctors are too quick to prescribe drugs, and often give little thought to the side effects and non-drug alternatives. It has been found that doctors are influenced by continuous bombardments, advertisements by pharmaceutical companies & calling by Medical representatives. The rampant over prescription is more so in the segment of Antibiotics & G.I drugs. For any small infection high end antibiotics are prescribed which could have been treated by a low spectrum antibiotic leading to undesirable side effects. In india & perhaps the world over, is becoming very common which implies use of prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medications that the user is using them for reasons other than those indicated in the prescribing literature or on the box label.
